A mixed species woodland covering 38 hectares situated 3 miles south of Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire, and lies on the edge of the Forest of Dean. It is a commercial wood comprising 50 % conifers (Larch, Douglas Fir and Norway Spruce) and 50% broadleaves (Chestnut, chestnut coppice and oak).

At our Gloucestershire sawmill, much of our work is to enhance the natural health of the woodland and eco-system. We are following a Plan Operations with the Forestry Commission and a Countryside Stewardship agreement to encourage and enhance biodiversity with Natural England. This specifies active management of animal habitats and re-establishing native tree species. The Forestry Commission Plan of Operations guides us with the process of tree stock renewal.

Herefordshire Sawmill

Deepdean Design make bespoke timber structures of elegance and distinction.

Based at Warmhill Wood on the edge of the Forest of Dean, all timber is harvested, milled and processed in the wood.

We make a range of bespoke timber structures from arbours and pergolas to more substantial structures such as the Apse recently installed at Leaf Creative, Huntley, Gloucestershire.

Deepdean Design make and supply timber frames for house extensions and refurbishments.

We recently completed the refurbishment of a bespoke timber structure at a once-dilapidated grade 11 listed barn to create a stylish holiday cottage. All work was carried out by ourselves.

Much of the work is done using traditional methods. However more contemporary projects are carried out as well.

Meanwhile, our prize project “The Apse House” is now on display at the celebrated Leaf Creative garden centre.
The Tree Nursery at Warmhill Wood raises broad leaf species for sale and our own re-planting. Every year, we pot up bare root stock in the spring and then sell them as containerised trees throughout the summer months.
Also within the woodland, the original forestry shed has recently been refurbished and expanded. The space is available for woodland craft workshops and woodcraft courses.
